Sometimes you go for a pint you want to drone out the rest of the human race. That’s where jukeboxes come in. But with the rise of DJs and iPODs, the institution is dwindling. Here’s where you can still enjoy making people listen to your awful music choices.
CORBIERES WINE CAVERN, MANCHESTER
Frequented by Oasis and Mick Hucknall back in the day, as well as being the rumoured place where the Happy Mondays first met Bez, this Manchester venue is steeped in legend with the jukebox pumping out rock ‘n’ roll and indie classics. It does cracking wine, obiously, but if that’s not your bag they do great lager from the Czech Republic.
BRADLEY’S SPANISH BAR, LONDON
From classic soul to vintage American folk, this dive bar just off Oxford Circus is an absolute treasure compared to the commerciality of central London. Bradley’s might not sound very exotic, but they serve fantastic Spanish wine and Estrella Damm beer.
DRY DOCK, LEEDS
An awesome jukebox that’s on a boat on dry land. Need we say more? Well some of the pints are dirt cheap too and have a cracking view of the city centre from their beer garden. LONG LIVE THE NORTH!
If you’re a fan of heavy metal, then you’re going to love this place. If not, then probably stop reading now. A hidden gem just off Tottenham Court Road once visited by Lady Gaga, Crobar’s jukebox has everything from modern metallers Orange Goblin to classic Black Sabbath to punk icons Black Flag. They even sell Iron Maiden’s Trooper by the bottle, too.
DOG & PARROT, NEWCASTLE
A great pre-drink place for those heading to Digital across the road, Newcastle’s most famous nightclub (and once voted top 10 in Europe). The jukebox is jam packed full of indie classic and the bar sells cheap treble spirits and mixers.
